Community Comes Together for March for Meals Awareness Walk in St. Lucie County

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – The Council on Aging of St. Lucie, Inc. (COASL) successfully hosted its Meals on Wheels Community Awareness Walk on Friday, March 27, bringing together local residents, volunteers, and community partners to raise awareness about senior hunger and the growing need for services and funding in St. Lucie County.

The event, part of the national March for Meals campaign, highlighted a critical local issue: 715 seniors in St. Lucie County are currently on a waitlist for Meals on Wheels services.

Participants of all ages joined the walk, enjoyed refreshments, and took part in raffle drawings, while learning more about the impact Meals on Wheels has on the lives of homebound seniors.

“Seeing our community come together like this is incredibly meaningful,” said Lacinda Mouton, Interim CEO/President at the Council on Aging of St. Lucie, Inc. “While we are proud of the awareness raised through this event, it also reinforces the reality that hundreds of seniors are still waiting for the support they need. Our work continues.”

Meals on Wheels provides more than nutritious meals it delivers wellness checks, companionship, and a vital connection for seniors who may otherwise be isolated.

The event was proudly presented by Conviva Care Center, with additional support from community partners including VITAS Healthcare, Suncoast Senior Solutions, Assisted Living Locators, Palm Garden, Harbor Place at Port St. Lucie, Treasure Coast Food Bank, Better Life Home Care, Jackson Drugs, Wesley Home Estates ALF, and Encompass Health.

Raffle prizes, generously donated by community partners, included tickets to the Elliott Museum, Florida Aquarium, and The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast, and more adding to the day’s excitement and engagement.

COASL extends its gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, and participants who helped make the event a success.
